You Tell Me When

Using my 'Webb' pattern that I developed over a few years from doodling in countless sketchbooks with inspiration by the bold linework of Bridget Riley from a visit to the Tate Modern in 2018. I started this project at the end of 2022 as a way of documenting people I meet during shoots and other events. I hand painted a 5 x 5 metre fabric sheet which enabled me to not only have a link between all the polaroid's but also allow me to have a backdrop that was portable so I could take the backdrop anywhere. The name of the project is a reference to a lecture held within my first year of university by Franklyn Rodgers, a well published and respected portrait photographer detailing how he experiments with letting the model direct him when to press the shutter button, giving the model more creative control over their image (it was a great moment being able to photograph Frank for this project, he acts as a huge inspiration for me as he isn't afraid to experiment with techniques and equipment that only a specific eye can see potential with). I followed this concept while taking these images, for me, giving the subject an element of creative control highlights that the subjects I have selected for this project act as pools of inspiration for me. I plan on continuing this project for as long as I keep taking photos and meeting people that inspire me. The end goal is a book, but lets see where this takes me!
